Unit 1: Where We Are in Place and Time

CENTRAL IDEA:  The relationships with available resources and surroundings influence people's lives.

  • An inquiry to the interactions with our surrounding resources. (Responsibility)

  • An inquiry into the exploration of new regions. (Change)

Unit 2: Who We Are

CENTRAL IDEA:   Ancestry and the environment influence our identities and who we are.

LINES OF INQUIRY

  • Biological and cultural traits. (Causation)

  • The different ways traditions are passed on and preserved. (Connection)

  • The cultural and biological changes that may occur in the environment. (Change)

Unit 3: Who We Are

CENTRAL IDEA:  Sharing the Planet.

LINES OF INQUIRY

  • How organisms adapt to change. (Change)

  • How earth and human activity impact the living organisms in an environment. (Responsibility)

  • Our role in preserving and protecting our environment. (Responsibility)

Unit 4:  How the World Works

CENTRAL IDEA:   Cause and effect relationships can explain changes in patterns.

LINES OF INQUIRY

  • Weather- related hazards (Form)

  • How people have used the resources of a region and modified the physical environment. (Reflection)

  • Solution that can reduce the impact of weather-related hazards. (Function)

Unit 5:  How We Organize Ourselves.

  • What influences our economic choices. (Change)

  • The impact that an artists' work of art has on others. (Responsibility)
