IB World School

Farmdale Elementary is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World Primary Years Program (PYP) school.  All students who are enrolled at our school are part of the IB Primary Years Program.  Farmdale became an IB authorized school in 2011.  Currently, we are the only public, non-charter, school of residence, IB PYP school in LAUSD.  We are also proud to be part of the only IB Feeder Family in LAUSD with El Sereno Middle School and Wilson High School.

THE EXHIBITION

Every year, our 5th grade students are required to complete a culminating problem-based inquiry called the Exhibition as part of their PYP education.  Students identify an issue/problem they are passionate about and collaborate with their peers on:

  • researching the causes and effects of the issue/problem
  • researching actions that have been taken to address the issue/problem
  • developing their own action plan to address the issue/problem
  • implementing and evaluating their action plan
  • presenting their inquiry to the school community

Through the Exhibition, students are able to demonstrate the attributes of the learner profile, apply the approaches to learning skills developed throughout the PYP and apply their conceptual learning in authentic contexts.

All 5th grade student Exhibition groups are mentored throughout their Exhibition journey, by our Farmdale ETK-4th grade teachers.  The Exhibition also serves as an opportunity for our teachers and students to reflect on and evaluate the PYP at Farmdale.
