  Unit 1: How The World Works

CENTRAL IDEA:  Systems interact in multiple ways within environments and Communities.

     LINES OF INQUIRY

 

  • An inquiry into communities. (Form)
  • An inquiry into how natural systems function. (Function)
  • An inquiry into the effects that systems have on communities and the environment. (Cause)

Unit 2: How We Express Ourselves

  CENTRAL IDEA:   Actions affect the quality of life.

  • How diverse points of view transform the world. (Perspective)
  • How patterns exist in change. (Change)

Unit 3: Sharing the Planet

CENTRAL IDEA: Inequalities impact equal access.

LINES OF INQUIRY

 

  • How awareness contributes to beliefs (Reflection)
  • What is inequality. (Form)
  • How Choices impact society and environment. (connection)

Unit 4: Where We are in Place and Time

 

CENTRAL IDEA:   Exploration, movement, and interactions between groups can cause change.

  • How change comes about in a society. (Change)
  • The different perspectives of people living during the colonial era. (Perspective)
  • The connection between exploration and world construct- religious, social, political, and economic. (Connection)

 

 

 


Unit 5:  How We Organize Ourselves

CENTRAL IDEA: Circumstances and necessity influence societies to maek decisions.

 

LINES OF INQUIRY

 

  • The various forms of societies. (Form)
  • Principles of human rights and social justice. (Perspective)
  • Societal decision making. (Function)

Unit 6: Who We Are

CENTRAL IDEA:  Interdependence leads to increased communication.

5th Grade Exhibition

Every year, Farmdale 5th graders host an exhibition for the school community to display all that they have learned during the education at Farmdale Elementary. The students are leaders of this project coming up with the topic and presentation format while working together as a group. Presentations are given in English and in Spanish.
 
 

 

Each 5th grade student at Farmdale Elementary will embark on a PYP journey called Exhibition. As a student in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, every 5th grader is involved in an extended inquiry related to on of the 5 transdisciplinary themes. The project represents the culmination of the experiences your child has had as an IB learner at Farmdale. Here are some of the Projects they have worked on.
